Re: Let's not Boo ISU
We need to focus on not booing our own players and team before worrying about whether or not we boo other teams

But wait, I thought we didn't boo players, only coaches for playing the players....
Agreed.

Re: Let's not Boo ISU
The fans won't boo the Iowa kids, just the kids NOT from Iowa. How about that. The fans will treat those clowns like clowns deserve to be treated...is that better?

Re: Let's not Boo ISU
OMG its sports, its a rivalry booing is permitted. Booing after a win (GT Orange Bowl) is classless. Booing before and during is not.

Re: Let's not Boo ISU
Some of you are simply clueless. Did you read the article from Jared Clauss about how booing a team simply gets them charged up?
Clauss: Reflections on 2009 Season | Hawkeye Nation
Now a slightly different view. Anyone who has ever played knows that the worst thing to have happen on the road is to run out of the tunnel to in an opposing stadium when it’s completely silent. I’m a realist and know that you could never stop everyone from booing the opponent (although there are certain fan bases that have accomplished that), but I might offer my two cents to say we fans should try and increase our home field advantage when we have one. Booing only unites the opponent and sparks a fire inside them. It collectively puts their back against a wall and people come out swinging once they’ve hit the ropes. Home field advantage exists based on locker conditions, field conditions, travel complexities, proximity of fans to sidelines, crowd noise that disrupts ability to communicate on the field, and emotional assurance from good plays made by the home team they can feed off of. I never personally left a stadium and said or heard any of my teammates after an away game say “Man that’s a tough place to play, their crowd boos so darn loud when we run out”
I feel as if this is a detriment to our team and persona as a fan base when we boo. Having watched some games from the stands after my career ended I have come up with a couple of conclusions. 1. Hawk fans are very passionate and knowledgeable. 2. They are committed to their team. 3. They want to see a quality product on the field. One thing I have been surprised to see and didn’t notice was the little things. When we beat GT and the Orange Bowl representative said we want to congratulate GT for a great game, we booed. This bothered me. I don’t remember a dirty game, I don’t remember players running their mouths from GT outside of the ‘normal’ amount, and I can’t think of any reason why we as a fan base would do this. We are better than that.
Booing ISU won't make Kinnick a better home field advantage, won't make it a tougher place to play, but it sure as heck will get ISU fired-up. If that's what you're aiming to do, then more power to ya.

Re: Let's not Boo ISU
As a Clone fan, feel free to boo our players. Hell I boo the crap out of the Hawks when they play in Ames. nothing person, its just a rivalry to me.

Kinnick is a tough place to play because there are 70k plus amped up Hawkeye fans who sit directly on top of the action and scream so loud you can't here yourself think on the bench or in the huddle. The 20 seconds of boo's that come down when the other team runs in is a non-factor.
While we are at it Kinnick was a much tougher place to play when the student section would pelt the othe team with marshmellows, beer cans, and whole hogs heads, but we stopped doing that 15 years ago. It seems to me Kinnick is still a tough place to play.

Whenever someone starts a post like this, I know it's going to be awesome.
For what it's worth, I totally agree with you Duffman.
Booing opponents is dumb and repugnant. Booing your own team is sickening.

Re: Let's not Boo ISU
I think booing a call (the officials), or booing a player, within reason (if a player does some extra-curricular activity to an Iowa player) is probably more in line. But, booing because you hate ISU is rediculous. We chose to be Hawk fans (either by family up bringing, or you went to school there), so our allegiance lies with them. A true fan (even against an in-state rival) will appreciate the competition and applaud both sides for a job well done. Yea, I'm not an ISU fan, but they do have some good kids that probably went to school with guys on the other side. College athletes do some amazing things and make amazing plays, so applaud that effort, because they are also out to win, just like our Hawks...

I'm guessing not. Actually, these ideas are more akin to your use of booing. The reason why they're so annoying is because they're awarded indiscriminately, thus devaluing their purpose. Similarly, booing should be reserved for subjects that truly deserve your contempt. Someone playing for a rival school or a Hawk performing poorly on the field doesn't fit the description.

I really think we should all laugh histerically. I mean, aren't you supposed to laugh at clowns?

Re: Let's not Boo ISU
When the Hawkeyes travel to Ames they are greeted with signs that say F*** Iowa, and not just from the students. So I have no problem booing the cyclones and allthey represent.
