Let's not Boo ISU
I know it will happen, I know this won't make a damn bit of difference... BUT...
Let's not Boo ISU next week. I personally think adults who boo or heckle any college kids are classless, (I'll let college students slide on this because at least they are piers. I may not agree with it but I'm a little more tolerant of what other 19 year old kids do) but I think this is particularly true regarding the booing of ISU. It's not because I hold any allegience toward to school (I don't) and it's not because I'm against jabbing ISU fans in the ribs (In fact I really enjoy that). It's primarily because out of the 120 or so kids listed on their roster 50 of them are from Iowa.
Collectively they are good hardworking kids who are getting the most of thier god given ability and are fulfilling dreams by playing division I football. Look at the roster, it's full off West Des Moines and Sioux City. They have Decorah, and Marshaltown, and Vail. There's lAmes and Forrest City, Bettendorf, Wellmen, Cedar Falls, and even Parkersburg. There is Templeton (mmmm love me some Templeton Rye), Pleasant Hill, and Dyersville (home of the filed of dreams). Yes there is even one from Iowa City.
Think what you want about the school, their football program, and thier fans, but let's show a little class toward the players. Afterall, other than the logo on thier helmets, there is little difference between them and Robinson, Sash, Sandeman, Ferentz, Koeppel, Davis, Derby, or Morris....

Re: Let's not Boo ISU
We should also buy them flowers and take them out for a nice lobster dinner.
Or we could continue to be the toughest place to play in the country even if that means getting loud and yes booing the other team.

It's not about booing the young college kids, it's about booing what they represent - the closest thing we have to an instate rival.

Booing the other team has nothing to do with making Kinnick a tough place to play in. You can't honestly believe this.

But seriously, I see what you are saying but you are talking to a fan base that boos their starting QB at home when we are 8-0 and ranked in the top 5. So, I wouldnt put too much effort into your not booing ISU campaign

Re: Let's not Boo ISU
I disagree with the OP. It's part of a rivalry. To me, booing a team is much different than booing a specific player. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you should boo the Hawks if you are a fan of Iowa, but booing the other team is acceptable. It's part of the game. What's next, the you shouldn't be loud when the other team has the ball?

To me there is a definate distinction between the two... one is helping your team win by doing something positive, one is essentially screaming you suck.
I'm under no dilusion that this thread will make a damn bit of difference in the grand scheeme of things, but hopefully somone will read it and come out with a different mind set.... but perhaps I'm just being naive.. (shrug)

Agreed but that isn't why we boo them.

With all due respect, and remember I'm saying with all due respect here, that has to be one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard anywhere.
Kinnick is a tough place to play because there are 70k plus amped up Hawkeye fans who sit directly on top of the action and scream so loud you can't here yourself think on the bench or in the huddle. The 20 seconds of boo's that come down when the other team runs in is a non-factor.
While we are at it Kinnick was a much tougher place to play when the student section would pelt the othe team with marshmellows, beer cans, and whole hogs heads, but we stopped doing that 15 years ago. It seems to me Kinnick is still a tough place to play.
