We are much much better then ISU
Our talent level is far beyond theirs. I dont get the conern over this game and the predictions it will be a close game. I know people don't want to appear overconfident but just look at the players on both teams, we are larger and faster, and most of our back ups are better then their starters.
Sure, emotion plays a part in college FB but it can't overcome a talent/coaching gap of this magnitude. Game is being overanalyzed. The best players win the game, Iowa has the best players.

It's been a while since ISU has fielded a team that on paper is better than ours. Still, that hasn't stopped them from beating us a handful of times. So yes, emotion does come into play a lot.

forget the fact that Iowa has won 5 of the last 7 and ISU hasn't scored a TD since 2006..... but this game still scares me..... Hope you are right.

Emotion won't block Clayborn, Emotion Won't Tackle Adam Robinson, and Emotion won't cover DJK. Neither will anybody on ISU's roster.

I love this. These are the kinds of words that have so often preceded an Iowa defeat to ISU...good work Hawkinn! Iowa IS a better team, but this game is far from the mismatch you'd like to paint it as being. It is precisely teams like Indiana, Northwestern and ISU that have been Iowa's Achilles heel these past few years...Iowa seems to really rise up to play the Penn State's and Michigans, not so much the mid-level BCS teams. We'll see how it goes, and I certainly expect Iowa to win a game like this at home, but your overconfidence is deeply misplaced IMO.
And for the record...emotion can make guys a bit stronger, a bit faster, and a lot more relentless in their hustle. How the heck do you think upsets like App. State over Michigan happen?

They have scored, just not a touchdown, and even then they beat us once.

I predict a close game in the 1st half with the Hawks pulling away in the 3rd quarter and leaving the clowns gasping for air in the 4th.

Re: We are much much better then ISU
Look, I think we are going to win, but to say that the best team should always win is ignorant. If that was the case there would be no need to play the games. And contrary to what you say, emotion can drive somebody to work/play harder.

Re: We are much much better then ISU
At least this game will have the crowd revved up. Last week's crowd was dead, to say the least.

Emotion doesn't tackle? Since when? Sure you still have to have proper technique but if you play with emotion it sure as hell helps.
With that said, I am not worried about tackling Adam Robinson. He ran hard but our LB's are a little better at tackling than EIU's and don't try and tackle around the shoulder pads

Re: We are much much better then ISU
I agree. The talent gap is wide and it will be displayed this weekend. But I must say that after reading Keelers article on Arnaud in today's paper, you know the one saying that Arnaud has seen the light, Arnaud will torch Iowa threw the air. Seriously though, Iowa has a better QB, WR's, O line is a push at this point, a better d line by far, better LB's, better safeties and better special teams. This game is of no concern.

Re: We are much much better then ISU
Its not overconfidence, its the way it is. People are hedging because of the victories ISU had a decade ago. Look at the talent level and its clear as day.

Re: We are much much better then ISU
We had better talent IMO in 2002, 2005, and 2007. Who won those games again?

You had me up until the second paragraph when you had to start spewing your uneducated ISU drivel.

Re: We are much much better then ISU
Mesaclone I must say that I do agree with your analogy. However, I believe the instate part of this will keep Iowa keyed up. The talent gap is huge.
