Iowa vs. ISU, what do Hawk fans REALLY think?

Based on the last two years of beat downs, it really would make sense to say Iowa will probably win easily again this year. I'm just curious if any Hawk fans have any worries or doubts about heading to Ames in a month? Or do all of you expect an easy win.

I myself think ISU keeps the game closer than the previous two years but will probably lose by 10-13 points still. The biggest reason is ISU's offense will not be clicking by the time they have to play against Iowa's defense.

More concerned about the Pitt game the following week.

I think this sets up as "one of those years" when the Cyclones could win. While I expect our defense to be pretty salty, theirs will be too. A broken play or their inexperienced QB finding a rhythm before our inexperienced QB does might be all it takes.

Not worried

I was more worried last year when ISU had a veteran (but bad) QB and RB.

I like our D, and I think McNutt, Davis, Vandenberg and Coker will be too much

I think Iowa wins by 14-17

I think it will be closer than in 09, I could see it being close at half say 14-7 or 14-10 but the 2nd half I believe Coker will prove to be to much allowing Iowa to control the clock in the 2nd half and Iowa wins something along the lines of 24-14 or 31-17. ISU will score a TD against the 1st team D this year as well.

Why do you care? You know what kind of answers you're going to get. Stop trolling.

Not real worried about this game. Iowa just has much more talent than Iowa St., and though that hasn't always translated into Iowa winning this game, I think Iowa has turned the mental funk they had in previous years when playing the Cyclones.

If Iowa gets the JVB from 2009 Ohio St. rather than Minny, Iowa's offense is going to put up a LOT of points this year and I predict a 10 win season. If JVB struggles, its going to be a tough year, but I still don't think bad enough to lose to ISU.

I think you're right about it being closer (I actually think it will be < 10 points), and I also think you're right about Iowa winning. Here's some reasoning that leads me to think this:

1. Your defense is going to be pretty decent next year, and I think they'll keep you in most of your games.

2. Iowa's O may be okay next year, but at this point in the season we'll basically be breaking in a new QB and ISU is going to do everything it can to put the game on his shoulders. As goes the Mandenberg, so goes Iowa in this game.

3. Games at Jack Trice, which will help close the overall talent gap.

4. Field position could really, really favor ISU. We're breaking in a new punter, and your punter is solid. Our kickoff coverage was horrible last year, so I don't have much trust in them. Idk anything about your kickoffs or return game, but if they're merely average that gives you an advantage. Field goals should favor Iowa slightly but field position should favor ISU big. Also, KF will stubbornly stick to trying to win FP even though our special teams may suck.

Things in Iowa's favor:
5. Overall talent and especially depth favor Iowa fairly big.

6. I think your defensive front 7 is pretty good, but I think they're better at rushing the QB than defending the run. If Iowa's O'line can get some push, Coker is going to be a beast.

7. Even though I think Iowa's D will be merely average, I have no faith whatsoever, I mean no faith at allllll, in your offense if Tiller is the QB. And I think that he will be at this point in the season.

I think this adds up to a low-scoring game but I think Iowa's ability to grind out a few drives with Coker carrying the load will make the difference. I'll say 13-6 final. The one thing I'm really worried about is that in a close game, turnovers will be crucial. If ISU can score a defensive or special teams TD (of God forbid multiple scores) I think we could actually lose.

I think Rhoades will pull out all the stops...he's got nothing to lose and everything to gain. IOWA's D better be on its toes for all 60 minutes or we'll get burned like we did on the fake Wisconsin punt last year. If we're solid on D...they won't be able to stop Coker and our O-line.

Why is Vandenberg so much more experienced than Tiller? Tiller has just as many starts as vandenberg and has won one of those.

Maybe he was thinking Janz? Also the Mandenberg has won a start as well.

Have you seen them play? Vandenberg is a true QB, while Tiller looks like he's a WR trying to play QB.

I doubt Tiller is the QB, as a Hawk fan I hope he does win the job though.
