Remember when Pollard complained about all the D-1 basketball transfers?

Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard addresses Cyclone basketball’s Transfer Mania | TheGazette

The above article was written in April of 2010. I think I-State currently has 6 transfers from other D-1 programs on their roster.

Re: Remember when Pollard complained about all the D-1 basketball transfers?

This quote is priceless:

Unfortunately if a kid’s world is not absolutely perfect (in their mind), they run from the problem rather than deal with it. Makes you wonder if it is the first signs of our society’s change in our early education program (no longer give kids grades – everybody passes; can’t keep score, everybody has to win; if you do not like something, have mom or dad complain on your behalf). Personally I wonder how that generation is going to survive in the real world when mom or dad or AAU coach are not there for them during their first job interview or first job evaluation. The bottom line is life is not a video game, you can’t just hit reset if you do not like your initial score.

I guess he doesn't really care how these kids are going to survive in the real world by allowing them to come to ISU and hitting that reset button.

Re: Remember when Pollard complained about all the D-1 basketball transfers?

Transfers especially in basketball have become the norm...and probably so at an alarming rate. I always felt he was pointing out a problem with society...and going beyond just basketball in terms of people looking for the easy way out in any situation.

But he may also have been taking a shot at Wesley Johnson, among others at the time as well. Pollard has no problem with doling out parting shots.

How many ISU transfers were let go mutually from their teams? I honestly don't really know. If the staff basically sends the kid packing, then the transfer on their part is not avoidable. I'm under the impression the MSU guys and Royce White fell into that category.

But if he is a hypocrite as its suggested here...who cares? At least he is with a lot of incoming talent! Woo-Hoo! FTW!

I was merely pointing out a bit of irony. Pollard was totally against the D-1 transfers, but now, D-1 transfers make up a huge component of the ISU basketball team.

Maybe he can include this statement when he starts putting up billboards again (in Hawkeye country) trying to convince himself that the State of Iowa is really a clown state.

Besides the transfers are ok IF they are coming to Ames and Fred wants them.

As mentioned before, he pointed out the absurdity of the ease it is to transfer out. Loyalty to a school you committed to no longer stands. How is he wrong or a hypocrite? His point still stands. Doesnt mean he is going to shut out transfers, he just doesnt like how the system works. I suppose to make you happy, he should have told any transfers to take a hike at the expense of Hoibergs job.
