They're on to us

Measuring offensive and defensive efficiency

Seems somebody is getting the big (or should I say B1G) picture. Ofcourse some dont like facts and numbers.

If we can hold on D wise, we should be alright. We are in a good position to go up in O. Right Jon? Convert 3rd's. I dont think we give up to much on D and what we do should be way smaller than what we gain on O.

kind of lost me there, but yes our (ppp) points per play should go up on O if we convert more 3rds, and conversely our ppp will go down on D too.

Can you explain your point a little? Just not quite sure what exactly you are trying to prove.

Well I read a bit more into than just what he said. You have to throw out almost all unranked non-cons first, because people tend to run the score up and or there is such a large gap in the scores, it sorta pads the numbers a bit. If you do that it gives a better picture, then you can look at the top 4 or 5 teams from that and look at what happened when they played each other. This year with divs, teams wont be playing each other which dilutes it a little bit.

Re: There on to us

That's too simple. None of it is adjusted (time of possession, run v. pass distribution etc.) and I don't think the non-con cupcakes should be considered in there.

Re: There on to us

Wouldn't our defensive points per play be low based on our style of defense (soft zone)? Points per possession would make a lot more sense for judging efficiency than by play.

Yes, as I said to have to break it down futher than he did. It's not the end all to be all, but factor it in with other break downs you do. I use it more to judge how much we have or how much I think we will gain or lose on each side of the ball. It is a bit more accurate than just using ppg and when factored in with injuries it really shows who did what for the team. Then you can look at if there is an injury, when the player will be back and when he will be 100%.
