Anyone have ideas what is going to become of the Clown's situation when the big 12 dies.
Even if you don't think the conf is ending please offer some advice on what would happen to ISU if it did.
Every sporting site that I have visited mentions the fallout of where teams would go and who would end up where. Iowa State is NEVER mentioned in those scenarios its almost like they don't exist. (which is partly true...they don't exist outside of story county).
He is what I think (and hope) will happen.
1)The conf breaks up. Isu ends up without a home.
2)Pollard plays his best Baghdad bob routine saying nothing is wrong while the stadium crumbles in the background.
3) Coach rhodes finally gives in and heads to Iowa City to the Wendell Johnson speech and hearing center for speech therapy. So he doesn't talk like a Missouri Flea market attendee. (Pollard rides along and visits the Dental building)
4) ISU ends up pouring its money into academics and becomes even stronger academically.
5) They end up in the FCS (only because our state is not big enough for 2 BCS schools)
6) ISU wins the FCS natty champ (for a few years at least until the curse returns)
7) the Iowa fan base gradually grows and Kinnick adds another 15000 seats.
SOunds good eh?

4) ISU's athletic department as of now is self sustaining. All money that is generated by athletics supports athletics. So there would be no "extra" money to go to academics. ISU couldn't support an FCS program, we wouldn't make nearly enough money.
Regardless these wet dream posts are a little hilarious.
The fate of ISU will be much kinder than what you "hope" for. They will end up in a BCS conference, provided there is a BCS. The whole idea of super-conferences will not work out. People are thinking way to short term and in the context of the way things are, not what they could be.
The BCS is a man-made idea cooked up to crown a football national champ using the bowl system. It only takes two conferences to kill the thing. Many people simply want a playoff to replace the BCS. The current crop of leaders will not be around forever. The next batch may just change their mind.
The way higher education is currently delivered is changing. More and more Universities and Colleges are moving toward distance learning. While campuses are full of under-graduate students today the need to be on campus becomes less and less. The economics of being on campus is becoming too costly. The audiences at most events is made up of a lot of students, faculty, and staff. If this group is dispersed than the size of the audience can become less.
Creating a super-conference with the only bond among colleges being the football programs is narrow thinking. One only needs to look at the Big 12 to realize that the bonds were broken when the Big 8 went on to become the Big 12. What looked so promising 15 years ago ends up being a loser.
Schools like KSU, ISU, and Kansas are being deceived by the rules of today and reacting irrationally with the fear of not being in the club, when the club membership is based on the BCS. They all have options outside the Big 12.
The motivating factor for super conferences is money from TV revenues. It will be unless the networks are unable to get fees from subscribers to fund them. There is a real chance cable and satellite companies are unable to carry them all profitably.
Congress could also look at the tax exempt status of athletic programs. The idea in Congress now is to move toward a flatter tax structure minus itemized deductions. Donations could be affected and proceeds from the networks taxed.

So be careful what you wish for.
Thank you for being a voice of reason. Some folks are trying too hard to get off on an ISU demise which is just silly. Look past the rivalry and see what could happen to college athletics in general.

I hope most ISU fans realize it's a small portion of our fan base that feels that way.
Ok, maybe, but it's not cool. How about Hayden Fry's skin or Norm Parker's diabetes? My point is that it's crass and juvenile, and when you lower yourself to that, it makes people look petty.

C'mon, Champ, ease up. This is a goofy rivalry board; anything goes.
