Other emails indicated Rick Klatt, an Iowa associate athletic director, was in favor of including school colors, however.
* A July 20 email from Klatt to Malchow talked about language the group might consider when describing the yet-to-be-debuted trophy. Klatt offered dialogue that supported the trophy concept: “The image — a father and his son, and a mother and her daughter, sharing a moment at the end of a day on the family farm — also salutes the rich tradition and significant role the agricultural industry has in the history and the future of our great state.”

Looks like the geniuses from both schools involved in the clusterf*ck are at fault.

when committees run amok and people who have no idea what they are talking about get involved in the process.

You hire a talented designer to give you several different ideas. Just give them the broad outline that this is a trophy that goes to the winner of the Iowa-Iowa State football game. It's sponsored by Iowa Corn, but anything related to Iowa Corn should be secondary, the primary focus of the trophy should be the matchup on the football field.

Then give the designer some time to come up with and present 3-4 ideas. You pick the one that is the best. Done.

ISU has a very good school of design. Just have students so several different designs and have fans vote on it. No reason to even hire a designer.

I am a big proponent of the Corn Belt, a heavyweight fighter style traveling belt. It would at least be original and hilarious. I can picture guys coming onto the field next year with it over their shoulder like Lennox Lewis.
