Stay Classy, Hawk fans
Absolutely serious with this.
Yesterday was far and away the best behavior I've seen out of both fanbases at the game. My seats are right next to the visitor's sections, and every Hawk fan I interacted with was very respectful, and just rooting for their team. Before, during, and after the game I didn't witness ANY misbehavior from Hawk or Clone fans.
For comparison, last year the Nebraska fans who came to Ames were just awful. Obnoxious, boorish, and classless. Nothing of the sort from Iowa fans, AT ALL.
It seems that overall, fan behavior in this game in general has really improved since the early/middle 00's, when it was just a cesspool of obnoxious and borderline violent behavior on both sides.
To those Hawk fans who were representing in Ames this weekend, thanks.

Re: Stay Classy, Hawk fans
I had no issues being a Hawk fan surrounded by ISU fans in section 4. No razzing or anything. As soon as the last TD was scored My wife and I hauled *** so we didn't stick around long enough to give people time to say anything however in the lot we parked at everything was civil. Lots of "good game's" going around by both fan bases.

I agree also. My section and tailgate was very civil. Last night I know I was spouting off some to HawkfromNorwalk. Sorry for that. Good luck the rest of the season. I won't be back until we play you in the next rivalry game in December.

I noticed this, too. Good job by both sides. Very different from 2007 when some were trying to pick a fight with every ISU fan they could see in the tailgating lot after the game.

Back at you. Good luck this year. Go get a win at UConn Friday.

Re: Stay Classy, Hawk fans
Not trying to stir anything up here, but as I left there was an Iowa St. man (mid 30's-early 40's) I walked by and he yelled, "stop talking sh**, or I'll beat your f'n a**." This wasn't to me, so I looked at who it was directed towards and it was an Iowa woman of about the same age. Granted I don't know what Iowa woman said and how much the Iowa St. fan had to drink that day, but it wasn't friendly. However on my way out I had three Iowa St. fans say good luck Hawk fan and I wished them the best as well.

At this point we have ample evidence that there's a small but visable percentage of both fan bases that are absolute d-bags. The first situation you saw was probably the intersection of the two.
There's also a large percentage that are generally good sports and good fans. Probably the last interactions were of this variety.

Re: Stay Classy, Hawk fans
I think the lack of expectations on both sides mellowed things out.

Re: Stay Classy, Hawk fans
Plus with Nebraska joining the Big Ten, I think the animosity and hate is going to be in that rivalry for Iowa. I think ISU-Iowa could turn out to be a more civil event than in years past.

Being a neutral observant, Nebraska moving to Big Ten will have no effect. According to some on this board, Iowa doesn't recognize ISU as a true rival anyways.

I would agree with this 100%, I had a couple Hawk fans right behind me, a couple in front and another across the aisle and all of them were very pleasant whether Iowa was winning or losing at the time. Nebraska fans are absolutely the worst fans I've experienced while watching a game at Jack Trice.

Re: Stay Classy, Hawk fans
I had a great time even though a few clone fans in my section cussed at us at the end of the game. Other then that and an EXTREMELY drunk cyclone fan literally yelling at every black shirt he saw, it was fine. I think the fact that it was such a great game in the end mellowed things. After the last TD i just kept standing with my arms crossed and watched. I think I even broke a wow that was a great game smile

Re: Stay Classy, Hawk fans
There were a few Hawk fans who were a bit mouthy the first quarter and a half but someone gave them a taste of their own medicine right before half. They werent swearing or anything, just being obnoxious. Right before ISU punched in the last touchdown an ISU fan turned around and told them to be ready, because he wanted to get a picture of their faces. Right after he turned around they bolted up the stairs. I didnt get much if any duff from Cyclones before or after. Really civil on both sides.
