How the Big 12 Might Look with Big East Additions

I have been trying to project what the Big 12 might look like if Missouri exits and TCU, WVA, Louisville and Cincy become members. I came up with three objective criteria to rank the teams; attendance, conference record last 30 years and historic overall record. A school that had the most attendance got 12 points and 11 for second and so on. Similarly I did the same thing for the other two criteria. The final results are:

Oklahoma - 35
Texas - 35
W VA - 29
Tech - 27
Louis - 23
TCU - 17
Ok St - 16
Cincy - 13
KState - 12
Kansas - 12
Baylor - 8
ISU - 8

If you want to form competitive divisions by matching the best with the worse they would look like the following:

East: Oklahoma, West Virginia, Louisville, Cincinnati, Kansas, Iowa State

West: Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma St, KS State, Baylor

This arrangement has some geographic logic and can be worked so rivalries could be maintained.

It's going to look bad, regardless.

Whether it looks bad or not that's still a Great football league that could easily go head to head with the SEC or Big Ten and do well

Regionally fractured conferences look like ****. That's why the Big East was such a giant turd. This will be no different.

Swap K-State with OU and we've got something... As an ISU alum I want them in the weakest possible division Plus I think KSu and KU should be inthe same division.

I know you're kidding but I have to believe that there is no chance in hell OU and Texas want to be in the same division again. Also, I don't think the Big 12 wants a repeat of having your two/three best teams in one division.

No way that they split up Texa$$ and OU or OU and OSU. Those are the 2 biggest rivalries left in this league if this scenario pans out.

That is one butt ugly looking conference. They better hope Texas rebounds fast or that conference will barely be better than the Mountain West.

If they're the two best teams, they deserve to play in the conference championship game every year. Why keep one out so a weaker team doesn't feel left out?

I heartedly dislike Texa$, I want them to get screwed. There's no rational explanation

If you add the point totals for each division the East has 120 points and the West has 115 points, so they are essentially balanced. If you use the Big Ten Division model of competitive balance, rivalries, and geography this is about as good as you can get.

Cross Division Rivals annual games would be:
Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State
Kansas vs Kansas State
Texas vs Oklahoma

Assignment of an annual opponent from across the divisions is up to you, choose Baylor if you like.

Since all the Texas schools are in the same division any Texas rivalries are covered. All the Big East entrants are in the same division and those rivalries are covered as well. I don't know if ISU has any real rivals within or outside the division, since Missouri was the only trophy game that I am aware of.

Re: How the Big 12 Might Look with Big East Additions

UK and KState are minor rivals due to the number of grads in the KC area and the relative competitiveness.
