Rhoads did something in 2011 McCarney could never do. And the win over OSU cemented it again for next year. Something Ferentz does each year at Iowa which makes him so valuable to the Hawks administration. He maximized the athletic departments profits with large numbers of season ticket sales, and attendance figures. KF does it each season, and its part of what will make Rhoads so valuable to ISU.
And unlike Dan, it didn't take Rhoads 6-8 season to gain legit traction within the fanbase. Rhoads was worth millions more to ISU than McCarney ever was. Those millions will equate to many resources that Dan never had, nor would have gotten.
As for Dan's better seasons...he accomplished those with his best teams, and did so pretty far into his tenure. And outside of the 9-3 season his best wasn't much better than what Rhoads has accomplished by barely getting his feet wet in the program. He could very well have better seasons once he no longer has a team comprised of players recruited by 3 different staffs.
