The eternal question...

So is ISU that good or does the rest of the Big 12 just suck?

Discuss.

Re: The eternal question...

I think their record is about where they should be. Beat the teams equal to or worse than them, lose to the big boys.

The Big12 conference is rated as number 3 in the country... Behind the Big 10 and Big East.

They are tied for 3rd in that conference.

You can only play who is put in front of you..

The blew out 2 conference opponents on the road, gave Mizzou, who
with KU are probably the class of the Big 12, a tough game in Ames..

And probably gave Kansas their toughest home game of the year.

Just like Iowa, they have improved as the season has moved along.

So yes I would say they are good.

Re: The eternal question...

A little of both, I'd say. I think ISU is turning into a pretty decent team, but there are definitely some bad teams in the Big Twelve this year and I don't think the Clones have beaten anyone really good so far.

Re: The eternal question...

The Big 12 is not a good basketball conference this year. They are top heavy with KU, Baylor, and Mizzu, which keeps them higher up in the conference rankings, but after those teams there is a big drop off. Their wins in the Big 12 so far have been over bad teams, but they still beat those teams so they are doing what they should be doing. They are definitely good enough to make the NIT, and I expect them to continue to improve as the season goes along. The transfers are helping them as much as we like to give them crap about all of the transfers. 4 of their 5 starters are transfers.

Re: The eternal question...

I agree with most of the posters here... decent team, continuing to improve, but still don't have a good win. Probably going to end up on the bubble, and unless we can notch a good win, may end up on the outside of it.

I think the ISU program is about where the iowa program is now in that all we are really looking for this year is a noticeable improvement from game to game... and so far this year I think we can both be happy with what we're seeing from the teams.

As far as the Big 12, I agree that it's not as deep as it usually is with only KU as the only "real contender"... I think mizzou's lack of depth will eventually due them in and I don't think you can ever predict what Baylor will play like on a given night. And there are some bad teams at the bottom of the conference this year.

Re: The eternal question...

From the games I've seen it doesn't appear that Royce White and Hoiberg like each other too much. They are decent.

A friend of mine owns the company that cleans Hilton, so I go in with him to watch practice once in awhile. Royce is an animal when Fred isn't around. Dunking over guys left and right, and playing tough D. As soon as the coach comes in he plays timid and subdued. Something is definitely going on over there.

Probably because if Royce plays that way (as he's tried to), he'll foul out 5 minutes into the game
