Re: Hawkeyenation Golf Tournament 2012
No way Johnny Orr is still alive. Just no way. Dude was pry 70 when I was at Iowa, and that was almost a century ago.

Re: Hawkeyenation Golf Tournament 2012
I don't care who my #3 & 4 golfers are, but I am riding with AHawk1 and that's etched in stone. It would be kewl to have funsters (and decent golfers) for 3 & 4, but if I get stuck with gargoyles like goods10 or irrationalcramps, I can deal. I mean, it's only maybe five hours out of my otherwise totes awesome life.
The only names on the No Fly list for my foursome are imported_ankle23 and briankaldenberg. And I don't reckon they'd attend this event anyway. Too many people would be looking to take a hard shot on 'em.

Re: Hawkeyenation Golf Tournament 2012
my dream foursome:
hawkeye12345, that coon that hawkeye12345 couldn't get out of his yard, herby hawk, and a viral infection that yields painful sores and loss of bowel control that raccoons are resilient to.

Re: Hawkeyenation Golf Tournament 2012
He's still pretty colorful in his choice of words. I like him. ISU had an event at whatever golf course is in Polk City, and I went to just listen to him.
He is like around 85 now. It would be cool if he's still able to play, and I could get him, but I'll be surprised if this event happens.

Re: Hawkeyenation Golf Tournament 2012
Not necessarily the OP, who probably has the best intentions of a golf outing, but it is an internet message board.
Lots of people get to post stuff, with no factual basis, and when it comes to putting in the hours to make something happen, strangely, all of the big shots aren't the boss, and they need to be at work. Funny how that works. Biog shot on here, but not quite the boss where they get to leave every day at 2:30.
It's a ton of work to pull one of these off, and too much for one guy. Let's say OP got close, what's your bet on the number of folks that actually pay? I bet it's under 30% of those that say they'll attend.
My preference would be to have it on a Weds afternoon. That would be somewhat like a social cleansing.
Now I'm gonna get ripped, but who cares, it's mostly the truth.

Re: Hawkeyenation Golf Tournament 2012
I agree, G-Man. I have helped organize several golf outings, large and small, and it's a freakin' CHORE. Fun, but a lot of heavy lifting because you want it to be just right and not a disorganized flop.
If I lived in Iowa, I would sincerely take a lead role in making this happen. Conversely, if most of us on HN lived in greater Charlotte, I'd host the durn outing at my home course (NorthStone CC).
But neither of these are options, soooo....I'll keep my fingers crossed and leave it at that.

Re: Hawkeyenation Golf Tournament 2012
I cannot take the lead. I should be working right now. I could help. We could get something done.
We'd need to sort through the doers, the talkers and the egos first.
The overwhelming desire to have it in the greater DM area, and on a weekend, would be a bad thing. No Iowa coaches. No Quad Cities. No Muscatine (and they fill up at least one section at Kinnick), etc, etc, ad infinitum...
Yeah, I prolly spelled infinitum incorrectly.

Re: Hawkeyenation Golf Tournament 2012
Agreed again. Midweek is the only way to fly with an outing of this magnitude. It IS a shame that there are so many proles who don't control their own schedules.
I remember what that was like...and it sucked. But hey, that's why I worked my azz off to get to where I am now.
- No ballpunching. Ever.
- Total flexibility.
- Unlimited options.
- Positive cash flow.

God Bless America. And I think you know I really mean that.
Had a little flood. Had a little flood loss. So that did impact my positive cash flow fer bout 3 years, but it also proved I have capacity, and character.
