There's a class 5A in Iowa HS softball?

When did this happen and how did I miss it? I wonder if it is a trial run for other sports? I would love to see a 32 team class 5A in football where every team plays 11 regular season games but only 8 teams make the playoffs.

They are only doing it for girls sports, basketball, softball. Its to make it more equal talent wise. Will not be a 5A football class.

The gap between the largest school 4A school and the smallest was something like 1400 kids. WDM Valley has over 2000 kids, and Boone who was # 48 has just under 600. It makes sense.

It is all about money. More classes, more games, more money. I am sure the boys will be enlightened to this and will move to more classes soon.

In the 90s they had two classed for softball that came together at state for one state champion. Kinda like Hoosiers for the small towns

Football already has 5 classes A, 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A. Throw in 8 man football and there are actually 6.

Clear Creek-Amana is that big? I thought it was 2-A football, and it is 4-A softball? I would assume it is a small 4-A, but they are always really good so should still compete for titles.

I graduated from CCA in 2007, we moved up to 3A for the '04-'05 school year. I'd guess there is about 500-600 students.
