Interesting Post from Miller and Deace.....

Found this while checking out Miller and Deace's homepage on KXNO.com. It appears to be a email exchange between Jaime Pollard and a less-than-impressed Cyclone fan. Make sure to check out Pollard's response after the fan's email.

Des Moines' Sports Station - 1460 KXNO

Anyone besides me find it interesting on how sarcastic and degrading Pollard's response was? Anyone else take from it that 'Ole JP is basically saying if you don't donate, buy season tickets, etc that you don't have much of a voice in the matter? Didn't realize that you had to sign you life away financially to be a VALID Cyclone fan.

I'm also convinced that Mr. Pollard is liar....I find it hard to believe that Matt's email was the only negative email out of the alleged 100 that Pollard received that day considering all the discontent that I hear from Cyclones fans. Pollard refers to Matt's email as being "embarrassing", I see it completely opposite. Pollard is the AD for God's sake....criticism is part of the job and he should be embarrassed for the things he said and his tone in that email.

With this response from Pollard, all I can say is wow. First Pollard ask him to donate and then goes on and basically calls the guy an idiot. If I was this guy I would forward that response to the President of ISU and ask him if this is the proper way to try and get new donors for the athletic department.

As much as it pains me to say this, but I think Pollard handled this just fine. He didn't e-mail the guy lobbying for him to be a new donor.

Just said if he claims to be this big fan, why he hasn't bought tickets or donated money.

Surprised he would go out and say he should be embarrassed, though

Re: Interesting Post from Miller and Deace.....

I found this hysterical. I'm literally laughing out loud at work. This guy writes in with his dilousions about the program and basically over 4 rambling paragraphs states that he won't ever buy another ticket to a game. Pollard says considering we have no record of ever buying a ticket we aren't concerned...

Does anyone else notice parallels to these ramblings to those of some of the extreme posters on here? They all contain...

1) Dillousions about the program in general. The Cyclone guy actually says the Clones were a dynasty lol. You have zero NC, two Big12 titles, and only 4 Big8 titles (1910-1996). I know lots of people that will be happy to learn one conference title every 17 years qualifies you as a dynasty.

2) Our coach can't coach/doesn't make any adjustments/only knows one way/system will never work here.... Basically you can replace Lick for McD in his email and it mirrors what many people say about Iowa.

3) Throws players under a bus and exagerates thier faults. So and so dribbles of his foot five times a game... Gatens cant jump, Brommer is a wasted scholly, Bawinkle is worthless.... whatever.

Since when did buying tickets or donating money gauge how big a fan you are? I'm a friend with someone who has never bought a ticket in his life but has went to almost every home Hawkeye football and basketball game for the past 7 to 8 years. His parents buy the season tickets....does that make him less of a fan than the guy sitting next to him that possibly paid for his tickets???........I don't think so. You don't call your fans out like Pollard did in that email. I sent this link to a friend of mine that works in the athletic department of one of the state's smaller universities and he was blown away by Pollard's response and tone.

You can be a fan and still not help the program one iota.

Re: Interesting Post from Miller and Deace.....

I thought it was funny. Both the original email about ISU basketball being a "dynasty," the Hilton Magic talk and the threat to never buy a ticket again and then Pollard's response about donating or buying season tickets. I didn't mind Pollard's response about buying season tickets (he clearly researched the guy for doantions or season ticket purchases), I suppose it is kinda like saying "you can't complain about government if you didn't vote" (although we all pay taxes). But JP is forgetting that buying tickets or donating isn't gonna make the basketball team any better. I guess I would rather get an email response like that than some form email reply that doesn't prove he ever read my email.

This isn't about whether or not buying tickets makes you a bigger fan. This is about one guy with zero perspective who calls out Pollard and threatens to never spend money on tickets again when in reality he has never purchased a ticket from the box office or made a donation to the U. The email made a big point to say he was no longer going to support the program financially, Pollard just called his bluff.

Re: Interesting Post from Miller and Deace.....

My point of this thread was to point out the fact that Mr. Pollard has no right to question someone's loyalty relating to how much they finance the ISU athletic department since Mr. Pollard is clueless and has no right to place that burden on anyone.

Actually, isn't it a little arrogant and down right unacceptable for good 'Ole JP to judge fans based on their financial contributions not knowing if they are in a position to contribute financially????

I agree with your post, but ISU does have 2 Big 12 titles, 99-00 and 00-01.

Matt,

For the last time Pollard didn't bring up the financial aspect of it you did. You made a point to go out of your way to write an angry letter to the AD and made it a point in that email to say you were no longer going to pay money to support that program.

Pollard told you (rightfully so) I'm not concerned with your threat because I can't find a shread of evidence that you ever did support the program.

The only things in that exchange that is arrogant or unacceptable is your vauge criticism of McD's coaching ability, the ability (or your perceived lack there of) of some players on the roster, and your completely ungrounded view of Cyclone basketball and it's history.
