Re: Is Ferentz hurting his player's draft prospects?

They've hit their ceiling so that's his fault? If they weren't being developed in college, then NFL teams wouldn't even consider them good enough to be drafted to begin with. "We're going to draft someone who isn't very good so that we can improve their skills so they're on the same level as a college player." That just doesn't make sense. Maybe the reason they don't get drafted very high is because they don't have as much natural talent as other players. Ferentz isn't doing anything to prevent them from developing at the pro level, it's not as if he's setting their ceiling for them.
-They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

OK, I lied, I haven't departed le thread.
You're such a fkn no0b, CHAD. You have absolutely no grounds (nor historical perspective) on which to label someone "bitter" because they demand a higher RoI for the Iowa head ball coach.
If I say you are a chickensh!t because you're obviously afraid to pursue perfection, how would you react? How about the fact that you're a dullard because mediocrity is clearly in your comfort zone?

Dullard? I haven't seen that word for a long time. Some do not strive for perfection or greatness. I don't understand it either.

Re: Is Ferentz hurting his player's draft prospects?

just because you dont want to hang a guy for losing a game or two doesnt mean you dont strive for perfection. the idiots are the ones who think kf isnt trying to win every game. or blame his paycheck. he was offered 4 mill, he didnt ask for it...do you really believe that you would turn that money down if it was put in front of you. i would like it if we won every game and were up for nc's but the odds of that are low. he has made staff changes to try to fix the problems and win more games. i say he needs 3 yrs to see if the changes help and then talk about maybe firing if it is stale still.

remember that any team has a smaller than 1% chance of winning the nat'l championship. also remember that under kf our basement seems to be about 7 games won...that is better than our sister's of the poor in ames's ceiling. would i like more 9 or 10 or even 11 win seasons? of course...but im not ignorant enough to think that kf settle for mediocrity. if he did how would he be able to develop so many that are nfl caliber. i know some dont care about this but it is a recruiting tool to getting more talent and in turn getting more wins...this was our best stretch of nflers under kf and in turn looks like we are reaping the rewards if you look at the recruits and recruiting we are pulling off this yr.

Anyone in this thread want to put Kurt on the same level as Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, or Chip Kelly?
How about Bielema, Fitzpatrick, and Kill?

I wouldnt put Kirk on the same level as any of those guys. One Kirk has a much less questionable ethic cloud. If you want to cheat to win fine what can anyone do but sit back and hope the NCAA come down on them. Sadly some people seem to get away with a number of things, Kirk hasnt got away with anything because he does it by the book that may not win National Titles but I wouldnt want such a thing if people were just going to bring up all the trash that surrounded it. I want a National Title just as much as anyone else but comparing Kirk to people who have been called out on NCAA violations more than one time I'll gladly take a clean coach and frustration over a dirty coach and victories at least with the frustration you feel something inside winning from cheating is like tagging your hot cousin, good for you but your still a scum bag.

Actually, I would put Kirk at the VERY TOP regarding player development, taking 2 and 3 star guys and molding them into NFL-ready players. Really, he's done more with less than any of the other 'elite' coaches.

That being said, Kirk undoes himself by having gotten complacent when it comes to scheming and keeping his assistants 'hungry' or innovative, plus he had some bad luck along the way with Norm's health and some key player injuries.

But heck no, KF does not hurt a player's pro prospects, he maybe only hurts their chances of beating teams like Minnesota and Iowa St while in college, for various reasons. Honestly, if you're a HS kid and you want your NFL shot, you need to come to Iowa, because that's where lead is being turned to gold.

I do agree there, Kirk is more about winning a NC he does want his players to succeed as people before/during/after football and thats a lot more then most of those coaches listed for sure.

This is the most ridiculous thread I've seen on this site. By far.

This quote from that article is pretty dead on. Kurt is good at evaluating talent, good at developing but a very poor game coach, hard to argue with that.

"Kirk Ferentz and his coaching staff obviously do a good job of evaluating talent and recruiting said talent. And based on the results of the number of players they are sending to the NFL, they also appear to have the ability to develop the talent they are recruiting.

But they are not maximizing their stellar recruiting efforts by producing enough wins straight up and they are definitely overrated against the spread. Ferentz’s negative in game coaching effect is bringing down Iowa’s talent, even if it is NFL talent."
