If Site was Not tightly Moderated...

On trumpetherald.com, someone pointed out what happens on poorly watched forums...

The Soundboard :: View Forum - Welcome to Trumpet Corner!

and the poster commented:
That's probably what our forum would look like if the mods didn't keep sweeping out the spammers and obvious lowlifes. As it is, we have averaged about 14 spam and sig-spam posts throughout each day. That's more than 5000 unwanted spam posts each year removed, and a helluva lot more than that would have been made had the perpetrators not been removed in a timely fashion as well. Thanks should also go out to a number of people who regularly alert the mods to spam they may have missed. I think it's a sign of a healthy forum when the biggest complaints are about long-winded 'contributors'. Congratulations to all involved in keeping the Trumpetherald an enjoyable and worthwhile place to visit!

I appreciate the way Jon and others take care of Hawkeyenation.com.

Re:If Site was Not tightly Moderated...

I haven't looked at the logs for a while but we have several spambot attempts each day. It's one of the reasons why we have a closed registration where new users have to be approved to post. I manually cross reference each registration IP address against a global spambot registry that forum owners feed their info to to help snuff out spam.

There is quite a bit that goes on behind the curtain.
