McD - way to go; really stepping up pinning a tough opponent... looking like he's got things where he wants them now

Ramos - too sluggish; wrestled ok, but really is a superior wrestler to the VaTech guy; first time i've seen Ramos look only so-so this year. Reminded me of last-year's edition of Ramos. He will be fine.

Marion - had Maple's number in the 3rd. If you wrestle for a full 7 minutes you beat him badly but he wasn't in the match mentally for the first two periods. Like Ramos, this is surprising and a little disturbing. Both of these guys have been full throttle all year but weren't ready to go for the finals tonight.

Kelly with a pretty good finish. He will keep getting better.

Lofthouse - really bad match. Got dominated by a freshman. He's whipped Blanton twice but against other top tier competition he's still struggling. We need more from him by March.

Lofthouse loses 7-3. Very poor showing so far from the Hawks. Disappointing to say the least.

And Telford with a match he should have won. Second is great for a true frosh but somehow this also feels disappointing.

Agree. I really like Kelly, and I really like Dziewa too although I think they are grooming him for Marion's spot next year. His (Dziewa's) energy is excellent.

Midland recap from my seats.
125- McD seemed sluggish every start,taken down first every match but one. GREAT finals match. It was nice to see the stick!!
133-Ramos had a very good if not great tourney UNTIL the finals.Too much respect / not familar with the opponet? Shoody effort. But shows he is improved from last year and will do well this year.
141-MM- what the heck are you doing out there. Fridays effort was horrible!
149-Kelly- nice start- slowed the talent to beat most of the field. The top seeded kids showed there strength and experience - same feeling about Moore at 157 and Evans at 165.The top kids took it to them, but they will mature and improve.
157- Moore as a back up is okay, needs to stay in better position- to often on his back.
165-Evans- the Fittery match showed to me his heart. Fittery took it to him and almost pinned him, Evans was in bad shape BUT kept fighting and I thought really showed up in the last 2 periods. Encourgaging, will improve.
174-EL needs to attack more , get some angles- get stronger!. That Munster kid looked way stronger then Ethan.
184-Nice effort, Nice to see the kid work so hard.
197-GG, if you saw the matches, the body types - we are hudely out done here. GG shot and got thrown around or hipped to the mat.If he stays here, he needs Doyle to start working with him. He stii has this year and next.
Hwt-Also needs to add some chest mass, but fun to see him wrestle!!!

Now and over all observation- Nice team win.
Lots of points- 10 {11 w/ Clark } place winners.
But I agrre with ih8olives, never felt so down after the finals, almost like we lost instead of winning by 50 points.
Sometimes felt like watching paint dry. After McD. stuck his guy we were pumped for a great finals and it went down very quickly.
But enough bad thought.
Good job- team!! - keep working hard , improve and lets get ready for Okie. State. and the rerst of the season!!
