Cayle Byers

Man did he miss out. Could have filled the 197 spot admirably for the #1 ranked team and been dishing it on a weekly basis.

Instead, he is learning how to wrestle timidly at the edge of the mat and can't even secure his spot because Rosholt is as good or better.

Oh well...

GO HAWKS

Agreed. Byers may have had attitude issues... we'll never know. But wanting to go wrestle for Pat Smith rather than Tom Brands is mind boggling to me. I bet if we could have gotten Byers to an Iowa meet (who knows - maybe they did) he would have had a different opinion.

Re: Cayle Byers

In his defense, it wasn't his decision not to attend Iowa. That decision was made by the admin.

Before he was accepted to Iowa? Or after he came he did something?

Who the heck is Pat Smith? I realize this is a hawk forum, but JOHN Smith's resume is every bit as good as Brands. And like others have said, it may not have been his decision.

I too find it sad that the guy who looked like he was going to win the NC last year(until he gassed out big time) is now sitting matside.

My bad, typed his brother's name. John Smith.

And the only reason his resume is as good as Brands' is because Brands hasn't been coaching very long. Since Brands has entered the sport as a coach, he's superior to Smith. Okie State has really fallen off since Gable came on board. The majority of their titles were pre-Gable. They are still a fantastic program, but not at the level of Iowa.

He was informally accepted by the AD but then the deal fell through before he got started as a Hawk. The same thing occurred at Penn State where he was slated to transfer prior to the Iowa deal. Again, I have no insight to the details of what happened, but apparently the Big 12 has lower standards than the B1G.
