This team better turn it around quick if they want to place high at Nationals. What concerns me most is the lack of leadership on this years team. Last year I felt LL did a great job of being team leader but no one seems to be stepping up this year.
What concerns me even more is the lack of aggressiveness on this years team.
For whatever reason this team doesn't go out and dominate and consistently get the first couple take downs. This occurred against NW and again last night. I couldn't believe OSU had a 15 - 8 edge in takedowns. Can't even remember the last time the Hawks only had 8 takedowns for an entire meet. Lack of aggressiveness really showed in MM match. He was only down 2 pts with 1 minute to go and barely attempted a shot. I think Ramos will be fine but I'm still concerned that if he gets matched up against a good rider that he could struggle.
(Also need to give Coach Ryan credit for having his young team ready to wrestle)
I think the Hawks do match up better with Penn St and am hopeful they come out wrestling more aggressive and with a chip on their shoulder.
Has anyone heard any update on the how serious the injury is that DSJ sustained last night? Listening to Ironside it initially didn't sound good. I don't care if he wrestles against Penn St as long as he can get his knee healthy and is ready for Big 10/Nationals.
I do understand that this was just one 'blip' on the radar but feel the Hawks need to turn things around quickly in order to gain momentum for Big 10s/Nationals.
Can't remember when Iowa looked this bad as a team.Hopefully this was just a minor set back and can be corrected.I don't have high hopes of DSJ recovering from his injury, look how long he's been out of the line up and hurt it again. He doesn't move side to side very well and leaves his leg out there for the taking.JMO
