IOWA CITY, Iowa – The outlook for Iowa’s basketball season became brighter Wednesday night when star forward Tyler Cook announced he would be returning for his junior season. He spent the last few months going through the NBA Draft process.
The 6-foot-9, 255-pounder from St. Louis averaged 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in 2017-18. Both of those marks paced the Hawkeyes. Cook also led them in field goal percentage (56.6), and his 60 dunks highlighted his explosiveness at the rim.
He worked out for teams NBA teams during the last few months. Boston, Cleveland, San Antonio and Denver were among the franchises taking him through the paces and offer feedback.
Cook and Iowa coach Fran McCaffery held a teleconference with the media Thursday morning, talking more about his decision, and what it means for the Hawkeyes and him moving forward.
