Iowa Hawkeyes Offer Washpun

The Iowa coaching staff now has three scholarships to award this spring if they a) want to and b) find three players they feel have the talent to help them that want to come to Iowa.

One interesting 2011 prospect that has had a standout senior year is very close to the home of the Hawkeyes, and that is Cedar Rapids Washington point guard Wes Washpun.

Rob Howe of HawkeyeInsider.com spoke with Washpun today, and it sounds like the prospect is keeping his cards close to his vest, but there may be some activity afoot. Click on that link to read the entire article. Here is an item from The Gazette’s Scott Dochterman on Washpun

Washpun told Howe he spoke to Fran McCaffery Monday night and that McCaffery told him about Cully Payne’s decision to leave Iowa, and that the Hawkeyes want Washpun to come down to Iowa City for a visit on Thursday.

Washpun has a former teammate at Iowa in incoming freshman Josh Oglesby, so that, in addition to the familiarity of being just 25 minutes from the Iowa campus gives Iowa a home town shot. Washpun averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game last year.
