Iowa lost to Michigan State 70-63 on Wednesday night…that they lost at the Breslin Center is not a surprise, as they have not won there in 17 years.

However, for a while in the second half, it looked like some of that 1993 magic was ready to strike again as Iowa rallied from a 19 point defecit with 11:09 remaining in the game to pull to within three points with 2:05 remaining on a long bomb three from Matt Gatens.  Iowa would cut the margin to three with :17 seconds to play, but the Spartans hit their free throws down the stretch to salt away the victory.

The 1993 win is a game that Iowa fans will never forget, a 96-90 overtime victory 10 days after Chris Street was killed in a car accident.  Iowa trailed by 15 points with just over three minutes remaining, and that’s when guard Val Barnes & Acie Earl went crazy and the Spartans couldn’t hit their free throws.
