Juco point guard Matt Glover was set to visit the Iowa campus this weekend, but that visit has been canceled because Iowa is no longer recruiting him.

Why?

The coaches have told him they have another commitment and therefore do not have room for him.

That’s good news shrouded in a mystery at this particular moment, because no one is sure who that commitment might be.

There are a few other questions, but this coaching staff has been very locked down as it relates to recruiting nuggets escaping CHA.

I think Iowa feels Hubbard can give them minutes at the 1, 2, 3 and 4 positions…I don’t think he is someone that can give you 20 minutes per game at the one, but for next year, he might be able to give you 8 to 10 to let Cartwright get a breather and keep Marble at the off guard position.

Perhaps Iowa has some off the radar point guard prospect they are close with here, or perhaps they feel like they don’t just want to throw a ride at a player they are not 100% sold on to help the program in order to add another body.

Mike Gessell of Sioux City had a good visit with the staff recently, and he is a player they could tell is going to get the ‘keys to the car’ handed to him as a true freshmen.  Scout.com ranks him as a Top 10 point guard prospect in next year’s class.  Kids of that level want to hear they can come in and start right away, and if you don’t have another point guard on the roster aside from Bryce Cartwright, Gessell sees that and can certainly see an opportunity to play and play a lot for his entire career.

There is certainly a risk involved there, putting a lot of eggs in one basket, but perhaps the staff thinks its worth it.
