Incoming Iowa Hawkeyes freshman Peter Jok is setting some expectations for this coming year given his play in the Prime Time League. He had another big night on Sunday:

Jok is averaging 28.5/ppg through four PTL games this year, which is five more points per game than he averaged this past season at West Des Moines Valley (23.6) as a 1st Team All State performer.

No one is ever going to accuse the Prime Time League of being a defensive proving ground, but Jok’s scoring average may be higher than any other Hawkeye this summer; it’s either him or Mike Gesell.

Jok will also be able to play defense at the next level. He is coming into a program that made a big jump in defensive efficiency this past year, becoming one of the better defensive teams in all of college basketball. Everyone is back save Eric May, who was arguably the team’s best outside defender, but Iowa’s interior defense should be better this year, too. Jok will get the message. He’ll be battling with Josh Oglesby for minutes and Oglesby has missed the PTL up to this point with an injury to a finger on his shooting hand. Rick Brown of The Register tweeted that Josh broke it on a backboard at Coe.

Do yourself (and Peter) a favor and don’t expect the kid to come in and average double-figures as a freshman. That said, he is playing better basketball than I expected he would play in the PTL.

Here is how the rest of the Hawkeyes fared on Sunday night, the midway point of the PTL season, per Brandon Stiles twitter feed (@thebstiles):

Devyn Marble: 33pts, 8 boards, 7 assists
Mike Gesell: 35pts, 9 assists, 8 boards
Adam Woodbury: 20pts, 9 boards
Zach McCabe: 19pts, 10 boards
Jarrod Uthoff: 14pts, 15 boards
Gabe Olaseni: 29pts, 15 boards
Anthony Clemmons: 17pts
Kyle Meyer: 20pts, 9 boards
