Family Connections Make Iowa a Player for 4-Star WR Tyler Morris

Growing up in the Chicago area, Tyler Morris usually had an eye on Iowa. Connections to the state have kept the Hawkeyes in the hunt for his services even with a lot of other impressive suitors.

Iowa was among the programs offering scholarships early, jumping in with the Lagrange Park (IL) Nazareth Academy four-star receiver in February of last year.

“Iowa was a big offer for me. My mom’s from there (Dubuque) and I have family that still lives there, so it was a team I saw a lot of growing up,” Morris told HN.

Arizona State, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin also have offered him scholarships.

“I never had a dream school but was always hearing about Iowa and watching the games because my mom is a big fan,” he said.

Rivals and 247 both list Morris (6-0, 175) as a four-star prospect and the No. 7 receiver nationally in the 2022 Class. The latter sees him No. 54 player in the country regardless of position, while the latter puts him 70th.

Position coach Kelton Copeland has helped build a strong Hawkeye receiver corps during the last few years. Morris has noticed.

“I’ve learned that even though they are seen as a running team they are a team that definitely uses their receivers,” he said.

Assistant Seth Wallace is leading Iowa’s recruitment of Morris.

“I have talked to coach Wallace the most throughout this time, and we have a built a pretty good relationship,” he said.

The Hawkeyes played host to Morris for a junior day in 2019. That proved to be a good development with the current year when the COVID-19 pandemic created a recruiting dead period that began in March.
