IOWA CITY, Iowa – We’ve reached the final stop in our unveiling of the all-Kirk Ferentz teams. It turned out to be a tight battle at quarterback.

Brad Banks

Skinny: We really haven’t seen any other dudes like Banks, who could throw and run, during the last 20 years. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting in ’02, when the Hawkeyes won the Big Ten with an 8-0 mark. He tossed 26 touchdowns that year, one off Chuck Long’s team record. He was the Associated Press National Player of the Year, won the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top quarterback and brought home Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Second Team

Drew Tate

Skinny: Tate’s performance during the ’04 championship run was one for the ages. The Hawkeyes had no running game and still won the season’s final 10 games. They capped it with a last-second win against defending national champion LSU in the ’05 Capital One Bowl on a Tate to Warren Holloway touchdown pass. Tate ranks second to Long on Iowa’s all-time list for passing yards (8,292) and touchdowns (61).
