Iowa added what could be an important piece to its defensive line next season when former Northern Illinois tackle Jack Heflin announced his plans to join the Hawkeyes. He spent four years in DeKalb.

Heflin (6-4, 319) was named an honorable mention All-America by Pro Football Focus in 2019 and was selected to the All-MAC second team by league coaches. The Northern Illinois coaches honored him as the team’s Defensive Player of the Year and he named as one of four permanent team captains in a campaign that saw him lead the Huskies in tackles for loss (8.5) and quarterback sacks (3.0).

Heflin prepped at Erie-Prophetstown (IL) High, which sits less than 100 miles from Iowa City. He’s been quoted saying he grew up rooting for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa graduated starting defensive tackles Cedrick Lattimore and Brady Reiff off of last year’s team. Austin Schulte and Daviyon Nixon return after being part of the interior rotation in ’19.
