HN TV: Billy Taylor Happy to Be Back on Fran McCaffery’s Bench

IOWA CITY, Iowa – When Billy Taylor changed jobs this offseason, it was like going home. That’s because he did.

The Iowa basketball assistant returned to head coach Fran McCaffery’s bench after leading the Division II Belmont Abbey program in North Carolina the last three seasons. Prior to that, he served as the Hawkeyes’ director of basketball operations from 2014-16.

Taylor’s relationship with McCaffery stretches back 30 years ago when he began his playing career at Notre Dame, where McCaffery was an assistant and helped recruit Taylor (’92-95).

McCaffery hired Taylor as his top assistant when he was at UNC-Greensboro from ’99-02. McCaffery helped Taylor getting the head coach job at Lehigh, where McCaffery was the head coach in the ’80s.
