Iowa Football Kicks Off Season at No. 23 in Coaches Poll

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa Football found out on Thursday that it would begin the season as a ranked team. The Hawkeye showed up at No. 23 in the first Coaches Poll.

Big Ten foes Ohio State (No. 2), Penn State (7), Wisconsin (12), Michigan (15) and Minnesota (18) check in ahead of Iowa in the first ratings. Iowa State, who Iowa will not play in the regular season for the first time since 1977, is No. 25.

The Hawkeyes ended last season ranked No. 15 by the coaches after finishing 10-3 with a late December Holiday Bowl win against USC. They were fifth among Big Team programs in those ratings.
