Jack Koerner, Iowa’s starting free safety most of last season, was involved in a serious watercraft accident on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks. His high school coach at West Des Moines (IA) Dowling High School confirmed a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

“I’ve heard reports second hand. I have talked to the Iowa coaches. Thoughts and prayers are needed,” Dowling coach Tom Wilson told HN.

The report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol lists Koerner’s condition as being “serious” and that he was transported to the hospital by EMS after a jet ski he was on collided with a boat. Another person on his vessel, Cole Coffin of West Des Moines, was airlifted to the hospital, according to the report.

Koerner and Coffin were on the Sea-Doo jet ski. The owner of the it was listed as unknown, and it had to be towed from the scene. Three individuals from the boat involved in the accident were in the report with unlisted injuries.
