Report: Big Ten Canceling 2020 Football Season

The Detroit Free Press reported Monday morning that the Big Ten was canceling its 2020 football season. They story stated that conference commissioner Kevin Warren preferred playing in the spring of next year.

Rumors of the Big Ten’s decision began circulating Sunday night. Iowa players took to social media as part of a national movement designed to save the fall season.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh responded with a statement shortly after the Free Press released its story. He outlined reasons why football should go on as planned this fall.

Iowa offensive lineman Mark Kallenberger wondered on social media why players were brought back to campus in early June, worked throughout the summer and now were being told they couldn’t play.

Hawkeye linebacker Nick Niemann also questioned leadership.

National radio host Dan Patrick reported Monday that the Big Ten presidents voted Sunday, 12-2, in favor of canceling the season. Iowa and Nebraska were the two voting to play, he reported.

Iowa football canceled its practice on Monday. Purdue held practice but canceled media interviews. Nebraska carried on with its practice.
