IOWA CITY, Iowa – Tim Polasek’s name has surfaced for job openings during the last week. Iowa’s second-year offensive coach has not heard from anyone, however.

The speculation sprouted out of Chris Klieman taking the head coaching position at Kansas State. That opened up the same spot at North Dakota State, where Polasek was the offensive coordinator for him before joining the Hawkeyes. The Bison ended up promoting defensive coordinator and Waterloo native Matt Entz. There also has been wonderment about Polasek reuniting with Klieman at K-State.

“It didn’t get very far, specifically the North Dakota State thing,” Polasek said Monday here at the football performance center.

“This time a year it’s a stressful time for your wife and a lot of people. The speculation kind of comes up. I was fortunate to spend some time there (at NDSU) and that’s where it kind of stopped. I really wasn’t a part of anything much past the rumors and speculation.”

Klieman still is coaching the Bison, which is going for its seventh FCS national title in the last eight years when it faces Eastern Washington in the title game on Jan. 5.

“Absolutely nothing,” Polasek said when asked if he’s heard from Kansas State.

Polasek has contacted Klieman to let him know he’s there for him to talk, not about a job, but about life and work.

“We’re real close friends but I don’t think he’s gotten very far with any of that (hiring a staff). I think he’s focused on recruiting and trying to win another national championship. So, I have not heard from them,” he said.

Polasek talked about how he feels Klieman will do in Manhattan, the development of some young Iowa offensive linemen, who might be next year’s center and matching up with Mississippi State’s fearsome defensive line today.
