Cook, Bohannon, Wieskamp Honored by Big Ten

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa placed two players on the all-Big Ten teams when they were announced on Monday afternoon. A third Hawkeye landed on the all-freshman team.

Forward Tyler Cook was named to the second-team by the media and the third-team by the media. Fellow junior Jordan Bohannon landed on the coaches’ third-team. Joe Wieskamp earned all-freshman team honors.

Sophomore center Luka Garza (13.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG) was recognized as honorable mention all-Big Ten. Nicholas Baer won named Iowa’s sportsmanship award winner for a third year in a row.

Cook and Bohannon earned honorable mention all-league honors last season and were a members of the all-freshmen team the year before. They’ve combined to start 180 games for the Hawkeyes.

Cook is averaging 15.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists this season. Bohannon contributes 11.8 points, 3.4 assists, 2.3 rebounds, key late-game shots and shoots 38.8 percent on threes. Wieskamp averages 11.0 points and 4.8 rebounds, while ranking third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (43.1 percent).

The Hawkeyes suffered through a 14-19 season with a 4-14 mark in the Big Ten last year. They’ve bounced back by going 21-10 and 10-10 this winter as they head into this week’s league tournament in Chicago.

Cook and Bohannon are the first all-Big Ten honorees for Iowa since Peter Jok landed on the first-team in ’17. Coach Fran McCaffery boasts 11 all-league picks during his nine seasons.
