Shaun Prater
Position: CB
Height: 5-10.1
Weight: 190

Prospect Profile
A talented but inconsistent CB prospect. Doesn’t have much room to add much more size to his frame. Has very quick feet and accelerates very quickly.Plays very quickly on balls thrown in front of him. High level COD skills, but technique isn’t polished. Inconsistent with his feet and will step in a bucket too often; wastes steps after making good reads too often. Will get complacent with his technique in Iowa’s cover 2 base. Let too many WRs have outside releases on Cover 2 and gave up some big completions because of it. Gives good effort in press coverage but can get over-matched by bigger more physical WRs.

Fiery temperament, not a guy who will back down. Flashes ability to create turnovers and is a dangerous returner after an INT. Fills hard in run support but effectiveness is limited by his size. Struggles to shed blocks from bigger more physical receivers. Will likely be best suited as a slot CB on the inside early in his career and will need to progress to be able to match up consistently on the outside. Top end speed is adequate, and he plays fast. Prater has excellent man coverage tools and most of his issues can be improved upon with coaching. Size will always be an issue. Should be a guy who can contribute on kick coverage teams as well. Looks like a decent value in the middle rounds.

Notes: 3 year starter, 2 INT returns for TD in career. Prater had a very strong showing at the East-West Shrine Bowl game. He was sharp during the week of practice and scouts took notice.

Prater declined to do anything other than bench press at the combine(hamstring issue). 14 reps at 190lbs is pretty solid for a CB.

Prater was nursing a knee injury and declined to do any tests other than the 20 shuttle and 40. As it is he didn’t do anything to hurt himself here.
