I am not going to spend a great deal of time getting too technical here.  We’ll keep it short and sweet.

Iowa paid an in home visit with linebacker commit Amani Jones on Tuesday.

I don’t follow a lot of prospects on twitter, but I clicked on Jones’ profile and noticed a link to his Hudl highlights. I clicked on them and gave them a look.

I was highly impressed.

I then went to his Rivals.com profile to see the offer list he had, in addition to his commitment to Iowa, and Illinois and Indiana were the only other Big Ten teams to offer him a scholarship. He is from the Chicago area, by the way.

Rivals lists him at 6-0/215, but he is probably closer to 5-10, judging by the side by side with Kirk Ferentz above.

My guess is his height is what helped him get overlooked, because all you need to do is watch one-minute of the following highlight film, and you’re going to fall in love with Jones. Though he doesn’t play safety, the name that came to mind as I was watching the video was Bob Sanders**…as in, he hits like Sanders, he flies around with no regard for his own well being like Sanders and he takes such great angles from the middle of the field to run sideline to sideline like a sprint…but a sprinter that will take your head off. (**No one is saying he will be Bob Sanders. I realize invoking the name of The Hitman is sacrosanct to some, but give the first minute or so of the video a watch, then come back here and tell me what you think..I saw some Abdul Hodge traits in there, too, related to head up lateral pursuit)
