IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa put itself on public display for the first and only time this preseason with its annual Kids Day practice Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. It was the Hawkeyes’ eighth workout. While a good crowd showed up on a summer sunny day, a lot of folks couldn’t make it.

Not to worry. Hawkeye Nation has you covered.

We shot video of the 7-on-7 drills and scrimmage portions of practice. We broke them down into an 18-minute compilation with almost all of the snaps. We left out the penalties for everyone’s benefit.

New running back Mehki Sargent enjoyed a strong day as did his Iowa Western teammate from a year ago, defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon. It’s a shame Nixon will be sitting out this season because he would be a key contributor.

The defense, as usual for this time of year, performed well. Defensive tackle Brady Reiff proved hard to block, Amani Hooker showed again that he’s ready to break out this season, and a new group of linebackers led by Amani Jones and Nick Niemann improved since the spring.

The offense also delivered throughout the afternoon. Quarterback Nate Stanley and tight end Noah Fant hooked up on some key plays, all of the running backs look good and the offensive line sustained some drives, especially early on in the scrimmage.

But, you don’t have to take my word for it. You can watch for yourself. Enjoy.
