HawkeyeNation.com learned Wednesday night from a source close to the situation that former Iowa City West High receiver Oliver Martin has entered the transfer portal and plans on leaving the University of Michigan football program.

Martin spent two seasons in Ann Arbor, red shirting his first season and playing as a reserve in 2018. NCAA rules would require him to sit out one season if he transfers to another FBS school. He would then have two years of eligibility remaining.

Martin (6-1, 200) played in all 13 of the Wolverines games last season, catching 13 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. He rushed once for 11 yards.

He wrestled with the decision on whether to stay or go while he was back home in Iowa City this spring. He ended back in Ann Arbor at the end of last week and spoke with coaches.

The source that told HN Martin was leaving Michigan called the decision to exit “excruciating.”

Iowa could end up being a landing spot for Martin but it’s not a done deal.
