IOWA CITY, IA – Former Iowa great Ed Podolak has been named honorary captain for Saturday’s game against Arizona. The Hawkeyes face the Wildcats in a televised game with kickoff set for 2:36 p.m. in Kinnick Stadium. A few tickets still remain for the contest. Iowa has sold out 37 of its last 38 home games.

Podolak, a native of Atlantic, IA, has also served as color analyst for radio broadcasts of Iowa football the last 25 years. He’s a member of the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame and still holds the NFL record for all-purpose yardage (350) in a post-season game. He set the mark against Miami on Christmas day, 1971.

He lettered three times (1966-68) as a Hawkeye quarterback and running back. He was named to the first all-Big Ten team his senior season. He was a team captain and Hawkeye MVP in 1968.

Podolak’s 286 rushing yards against Northwestern in 1968 is still the second best running day ever, by an Iowa back. His 1,710 career rushing yards ranks 14th best on the Iowa charts. He also passed for 2,316 career yards. His 4,026 career yards in total offense ranks eighth best in Hawkeye history.
