Cody Ince suspected that he was well positioned with Iowa. Still, when the Hawkeyes offered the Wisconsin offensive lineman during a campus visit on Wednesday, it impacted him.

“The offer wasn’t surprising to me, but when you receive your first Big Ten offer it’s a little shocking,” he told HN.

Minnesota followed with an offer for Ince on Thursday, the same day he visited home-state Wisconsin. Virginia, Northern Illinois, Indiana State, Western Illinois and South Dakota also have extended opportunities.

Iowa offensive line coach Tim Polasek, who recruits Wisconsin, visited Ince at his Balsam Lake (WI) Unity High School a few weeks ago. That’s when the relationship between the two parties kicked off.

Ince felt grateful that the Hawkeyes followed up with an offer.

“It’s exciting because I enjoyed the way people carry themselves down in Iowa City. There was a sense of family, which I really like,” he said.

Staff members showed him a great deal of what the school and city has to offer.

“I liked the campus from what I saw. I also liked the small town feeling within a bigger city. I loved hearing that I would be a good fit with the team,” Ince said.

Ince believes he’s a good fit for the Hawkeyes, as well.

“I really like the sense of family and having a home away from home. Those are two big things. Iowa has a lot to offer similar to what my area of Wisconsin has to offer,” he said.

Polasek is a big selling point for Iowa. Having his position coach recruit him adds something to the equation.

“I love his energy and enthusiasm,” Ince said.

The Hawkeyes’ rich history in fielding respected and productive offensive lines also attracts Ince.

“It’s one of the best in the country. The numbers don’t lie,” he said.

Head Coach Kirk Ferentz met with Ince on his visit. The dean of Big Ten coaches made a good impression.

“We honestly talked a lot about things other than football itself. That was pretty cool. It was great to sit down and do that. I think he’s great and does things the right way,” Ince said.

Ince said he’ll continue visiting as many schools as possible, building relationships with them and seeing what they can offer him. He said he’s signed up for a summer camp at North Dakota State.

Ince plans do study Engineering in college. He’s taking his time with the process.

“Whenever I’m comfortable making a decision and I feel like I have found the best fit, I’ll commit,” he said.

The 247 network ranks Ince as a three-star prospect and the No. 62 offensive tackle nationally in the 2018 recruiting class.

Here’s a look at Ince’s junior highlights:
