His rules don't translate to wins. That's football:).

So yeah don't follow rules, let guys who get their license suspended 6 times still play, do questionable shit, that's the kind of team we all want right???? You like it better if Kirk let 'em tweet cause you want to follow some 19 year old kid on the team?

Iowa sits at #20 in athletic revenues (The article is from 2016). Ahead of Iowa in the Big 10:
#3 Ohio St
#4 Michigan
#10 Penn St
#12 Wisconsin
#18 Minnesota
#19 Michigan St

Nebraska sits at #24, by the way.

So what makes you think that the amount of money garnered in athletic revenues translates to wins? Texas A&M (7-6) is #1 in athletic revenues and Texas (7-6) is #2. Wouldn't they, and their ADs, be bigger failures that Iowa this year?

I'm not a huge Barta fan, but if Iowa is # 20 in revenue, Barta must be doing SOMETHING right. If he were the worst AD in the big ten, wouldn't Iowa be at or near the bottom in revenue?

Right or wrong... revenue is the primary responsibility of an AD at this level. In that capacity, Barta is quite solid. Wins and Losses will matter much more if they negatively impact the revenue/donations/fundraising. To Date, they have not. Thus... here we are.

I am a little indifferent about Barta, although I am surprised he is still the AD after happenings last year. I do wish the man well in his fight against cancer though.

I'm not saying allow the young'uns to not follow rules. I'm saying KF's rules don't translate to impressive seasons. KF's rules don't translate to impressive offenses. KF's rules keeps every game close...on purpose...and KF's rules don't have impressive defenses. KF's rules don't game plan for actual game situations. Follow rules just not KF's.

5 stars are never gonna beat down our door here and primarily cause of what it is like outside right now and the image that is the state of Iowa. People just get hung up on that. Nebraska is finding out the same thing. Their exposure got greatly diluted from what it was in the 70s through the 90s. Not so easy getting kids to go to the corn fields any more.

So you say. Convenient excuse.

I am calling BS. We have had some seriously impressive defenses throughout the years.

Please...we were undefeated just two years ago...and were a 9 minute drive with two fourth down conversions away from winning the B10 championship and going to the CFB playoff, whether we were worthy or not. We have had some pretty impressive defenses over the years. Stanzi doesn't get hurt and that 2009 team could have run the table. KF has had successive years where we were in the top ten.

The issue is that we aren't consistently a top 15 or 20 team. That's a fair argument and we don't recruit well enough..another one. To say KF's rules prohibit us is stupid. Hell, if we have a piece of luck in three games last year (MSU, NW, PSU) we are likely 10-3...a higher tier bowl game would likely have been a loss. 2017 was a rebuilding year on offense with the injuries...and the young players who had to contribute.

From my perspective, skewed though it may be, recruiting has been the biggest issue of the Ferentz era. We need to do better there. The good news is that I believe it's improved. We played several young players on a team that as I said, was a whisker away from a 10 win season. Wirfs, Jackson, ISM, Hooker, Hankins, IKM, Young, Stone, and AJ are all freshmen. That's nine freshmen that made major contributions. Throw in a few other receivers that also saw the field with limited results...and you played 11 valuable minutes. I'd like to know when the last time KF played 11 freshman (redshirt included) meaningful minutes. I'd say never. That points to recruiting improvements.

Barta got on a train that was already moving at a brisk pace. He's kept if moving but don't give him credit for starting it from a dead stop. Jim Delaney deserves plenty of the credit too.

Looks good on paper..........hopefully we can expand our base for talent.
Guy has roots in the south anyway having been at TN etc so we'll see how it goes. Yeah they've been pushing GA for awhile. GA, FL and TX. Get roots in those states and you can get some good players. Not sure if that'll be easier or harder than say going into Ohio or PA for kids now. Just ask Frost. He pretty much got a lot of the leftover 'crumbs' from FL kids and was able to do what he did.

I am a tad surprised that as long as Woods has been on staff that he's just the special teams only guy now. When Reid left I figured he'd be the LB coach because at that point the two of them shared that position splitting them up by inside and outside. If I'm Woods I dunno if he's just bolstering his overall resume so he can be promoted up someplace else or what but as long as he's been at Iowa for him to be just doing special teams now seems like a step back in short term.

Plus this against one of the toughest schedules in the country as well, there is reason for optimism going forward if our offense can improve and our defense doesn't decline

Have you lost your glasses? Where was Iowa's defense in the Rose Bowl? The Outback loss to Florida? Just 'cause Iowa plays most of its games in the B1G West and limits opponents to lower scoring, that doesn't indicate a "seriously impressive" defense. You want a seriously impressive defense? Get Wisconsin's defense. Iowa's defense is more a 'counter-puncher's' defense. Not seriously impressive. IMO, Iowa's defense would/did get shredded in the BIG XII. Forty-five to forty-two.

I grant the Rose Bowl, but not the Outback. That was pretty much ALL on the offense, save for one bad play by the defense.
