Hawkeyes Jump in Mix with Kansas OL Nick Herzog

Iowa dipped into Stilwell (KS) Blue Valley High for 2020 offensive lineman Mason Richman. The Hawkeyes returned to that program on Oct. 22 with a scholarship offer for ’22 O-Lineman Nick Herzog.
They’re hoping that connection pays off.
“Mason has nothing but good things to say about (OL) coach (Tim) Polasek and the program there,” Herzog told HN. “We keep in touch, and he’s extremely excited to show me around when I get up there. He texted me when I got offered and his words were ‘Iowa’s just different.’”
Iowa boasts a strong offensive linemen lineage, which made the opportunity impactful.
“It’s exciting because it’s an O-Line school, and one that has a successful history because of their O-Line,” Herzog said.
“It’s a great offensive line school that has consistently developed players and put them into the NFL. They take pride in their O-Line and it shows. Everyone knows it’s an honor to be able to be a part of that Iowa tradition.”
Kansas, Kansas State and Virginia also have offered scholarships.

“It’s hard to say I have any favorite schools right now as I haven’t been on campus at all of them yet. I’m looking forward to visiting campuses this winter and spring,” he said.
Until then, Herzog is continuing to build a relationship with Polasek.

“I really enjoy talking to him. He’s straightforward and to the point. I think me and him have a good connection. I also talk to coach (Kelton) Copeland,” he said.
Herzog is leaning toward majoring in Engineering.
“I’m looking to decide before my senior year. I’m looking for a place where I feel I fit well with coaches and players, and where I can succeeded in that program,” he said.

Rivals and 247Sports rank Herzog (6-4, 265) as a three-star prospect. The former sees him as the No. 10 offensive guard nationally in the class and the No. 3 player in his state regardless of position. The latter puts him as the No. 69 offensive tackle and No. 6 in Kansas.
