Grayshirt P/K Commits

Blair Sanderson of iowa.rivals.com is reporting that Jonny Mullings of Austrailia has taken Iowa up on a grayshirt offer. View Mullings impressive video up top.
Jon Miller’s take: Crikey’s! This kid has a leg, and he has quite a few tricks in his bag. I don’t think I have ever watch a kicker’s 8 minute video before, but this was well worth it. The kid is a wizard with a leg for a wand. You will definitely want to check out the highlights.
For the uninitiated, a grayshirt offer means that a student pays his own way for the fall semester, then is placed on scholarship for the spring semester, which basically gives him five and a half years to play four. This results in an extra spring practice session.

In the case of Mullings, the plan is for him to enroll on scholarship in January of 2011. Next year will be Ryan Donahue’s final year at Iowa, so the timing is perfect. Of course, something or two could happen along the way before next fall to where a scholarship opens up and Mullins is in Iowa City in August.

The ‘kicker’ to this story is that Mullings was as foreign exchange student in Iowa years ago and was exposed to the Hawkeye State that way!
