IOWA CITY, Iowa – Oliver Martin has found a new home. The former Iowa Football receiver has decided to walk-on at Nebraska after one season with the Hawkeyes, a source close to the situation told HN.

Martin, who prepped at Iowa City West High, spent two seasons at Michigan before coming back to his hometown team for the 2019 campaign. He joined fellow four-star prospect Ezra Miller, an offensive lineman, in leaving Iowa to walk on with the Huskers since the end of last season.

His time at Iowa got off to a great start. In the season-opener, he caught a nine-yard touchdown in a 38-14 victory against Miami (Ohio). He hauled in two passes and added a five-yard rush in a Week 2 victory against Rutgers.

Martin would catch just one pass after that and see minimal playing time following the second game. He appeared in just four Big Ten contests.

Some of that lack of snaps can be attributed to being behind four talented receivers in Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Brandon Smith, Nico Ragaini and Tyrone Tracy Jr. But he was passed by Max Cooper when Smith was sidelined for all but one play over the final five contests with a leg injury.

Martin did not appear in the Hawkeyes’ 49-24 victory against USC in December’s Holiday Bowl in San Diego. He played in just one of the team’s final five contests.

When asked early last season about Martin’s game reps, offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz delivered a terse response.

In remains to be seen if Martin will receive a waiver to play right away at Nebraska. He used his redshirt as a freshman with Michigan.
