IOWA CITY, Iowa - If you've been paying attention to Iowa Football recruiting, you've gathered that it's seeking to add a running back in the 2021 Class. Arizona ball carrier Eli Sanders scheduled a visit here for this weekend, and the Hawkeyes offered Mississippi's Jarquez Hunter a scholarship on Tuesday.

The pursuit continued Thursday night when they extended an opportunity to Lafayette (LA) Carenco High's Kendrell Williams. He verbally committed to the hometown Ragin' Cajuns back in July but did not sign with them last month.

Williams (5-11, 210) helped his team win the Class 4A state championship this season. He rushed for 139 yards and two scores in the title game and accumulated 143 yards and four scores in the semifinals.

A three-sport standout, Williams finished second in the state at 182 pounds on the wrestling mat last year. He won a state title in the 400 meters as a sophomore with a time of 48.97 seconds.

Iowa returns starting running back Tyler Goodson, an all-Big Ten performer in '21. The only other player with meaningful experience at the position is Ivory Kelly-Martin, who had ACL surgery last month. Freshmen Gavin Williams and Leshon Williams are the other scholarship players at the spot on the roster.

Here's a look at his senior highlights:
