Cam Williams attended Iowa Football camp Friday hoping for improvement. He accomplished that and left town with a scholarship offer to boot.
"For me, it was definitely special to receive that Iowa offer because growing up in Illinois the Big Ten is special to me. I also have a couple connections through Iowa in terms of people there," he told HN.
The Class of 2024 receiver from Glen Ellyn (IL) Glenbard South High previously picked up offers from MAC schools Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Toledo.
"It was (Iowa receiver) coach (Kelton) Copeland who offered me. He was very impressed with my overall skill set. He said the fact of me being class of '24 he was really impressed with what I had shown at camp," Williams said
Williams (6-2, 175) looks the part already even though he has three more years of high school.
"I liked the Iowa camp a lot because for me it’s always the competition aspect. So competing in 1-on-1s was my favorite part," he said.
The camp served as Williams' first exposure to Iowa, but he does have background.
"I wouldn’t say I know too much about Iowa, but what I do know is that their success is always there and just being a strong program consistently is something that I find impressive," he said
Williams hopes to get back to Iowa City for a game in the fall.
"I'd definitely like to learn about the city more. Every campus is different, along with every city, and getting to know what it’s like is very important," he said.
