Jalon Peoples loves playing defense. And that's why the talented Class of 2022 Texas cornerback is interested in Iowa.Â
Â
The Hawkeyes, who annually boast one of the country's top units, extended a scholarship offer to Peoples on Tuesday.Â
Â
"The thing I like about Iowa is that their defense is so amazing. They have a top defense every year, and I would love to be around that," Peoples told HN.Â
Â
Iowa faces formidable competition for his services. The Cedar Hill (TX) High standout lists a Top 5 of Baylor, Indiana, Nebraska, Ole Miss and Tennessee from a group of 25 reported scholarship offers.Â
Â
"LeVar Woods is the one recruiting me (from Iowa). Coach Woods said I can fit in on the defense they run, and he said he would love for me to fit in their program," Peoples said.Â
Â
Despite trimming his list to a Top 5 on Jan. 30, Peoples indicated in that announcement that his recruitment was open. Iowa moved into the race with its offer.Â
Â
"There will be high chances I will visit Iowa. I would love to go up there," he said.Â
Â
Peoples, who plans on studying Sports Medicine in college, said the next step with the Hawkeyes is building a relationship with the coaching staff. Â
Â
Rivals ranks Peoples (6-0, 175) as a four-star prospect, the No. 27 cornerback nationally in '22 and the No. 36 player overall in Texas for the cycle. 247Sports sees him as a three-star, No. 33 at his position and No. 52 in his state.Â
