Iowa Basketball had been evaluating 2023 Bradley(IL)-Bourbonnais/Midwest Pro Academy forward Owen Freeman for some time. Tuesday, the Hawkeyes decided they'd seen enough from the sophomore and offered him a scholarship.
Freeman was elated.
"It was just incredible," he told HN. "Just to be able to receive an offer from a school like that, who is a major powerhouse in college basketball and have a chance to play at that level, is incredible."
The parties will take a big step forward in their relationship later in June.
"I will be visiting Iowa at the end of the month, either the 22nd or 23rd," Freeman said.
Illinois (offer), Butler, Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Marquette and Northwestern also will be playing host to Freeman on upcoming visits.
While he still has a lot he wants to learn about the Hawkeyes, Freeman feels good about what he's seen so far.
"I love the way they play; the high pace and having freedom to play how you personally know how to; relieving pressure and just allowing their players to play," he said.
The Iowa coaches let Freeman know why they think he'd be a good fit for the Black and Gold.
"They say the way I get my teammates involved and my ability to be able to guard guys bigger and smaller than me is what they like," he said.
Rivals and 247 have not yet ranked Freeman (6-10, 220), but that should change in the next update.
