’20 Five-Star Oskaloosa Big Man Xavier Foster Talks About Iowa Official

Xavier Foster has a good feel for what Iowa has to offer. He’s a frequent visitor to campus.

This weekend’s official visit was more about strengthening bonds and relationships with the Hawkeyes, who extended him his first scholarship offer before his freshman season. He’s since picked up opportunities from Kansas, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Illinois, UCLA, Baylor and others.

Incoming freshman Joe Wieskamp played host to Foster on this weekend’s visit. Both led their high school teams to the state tournament last season with Wieskamp winning the state’s Mr. Basketball award.

Foster felt at home with Wieskamp and the rest of the Hawkeyes this weekend.

“They are all great. We just had a good time,” Foster told HawkeyeNation.com.

And that’s what this visit was about.

“It was for getting a better feel with the players and getting closer with everyone,” he said.

Attending high school in Oskaloosa and playing AAU with Pure Prep Academy, Foster understands the dynamics of basketball in the state. He also knows the University of Iowa and the hoops program well.

“I do love Iowa’s style of play and the community is amazing. We don’t have an NBA team so Iowa is like an NBA game for fans,” he said.

Foster was able to connect more with Iowa coach Fran McCaffery, someone with whom he already felt comfortable.

“It was great. I like Fran a lot. He’s pretty straight forward with me about how I would be used and what type of type of things that I could improve on, so it’s been pretty great,” he said.

Rivals and 247 see Foster (6-10, 210) as a five-star prospect. Both have him among their Top 30 players overall nationally in the 2020 recruiting class.

As such, there’s stiff competition for his services and likely more schools coming after him. He has two years of high school remaining.

The Hawkeyes have to keep on pushing and hope they can win him over in the end.

“I love Iowa. It’s a great school, but I’ve got to keep an open mind,” Foster said.

Foster has set up an official visit to Iowa State for the weekend of Sept. 29.
