’20 Illinois DL Isaiah Bruce Commits to Hawkeyes

For the second time in as many days, Iowa added to its defensive line. Isaiah Bruce, a junior from Illinois, announced his commitment on Thursday a day after in-state senior Chris Reames did the same.

Bruce became the third member of Iowa’s 2020 recruiting class. He joined Texas quarterback Deuce Hogan and Michael Lois, a defensive lineman from Wisconsin.

Bruce (6-2, 245) earned a scholarship after camping twice with the Hawkeyes this summer. The Lena-Winslow (IL) defensive end returned to campus for a game this fall. He also reported an offer from Iowa State.

“I picked Iowa because the coaches really made you feel at home and the facilities are great,” Bruce told HN Thursday night.

Assistant defensive line coach Kelvin Bell led Iowa’s recruitment of Bruce. He received the call with the good news Thursday.

“He was super excited to coach me and to have me around,” Bruce said.

Bruce sees Iowa as a good fit for him academically, athletically and socially. His older brother, Tevin Sellers, attended the university as a student.

Bruce had been leaning towards pulling the trigger for the Hawkeyes since they offered. He wanted to let it simmer for awhile. He continued feeling a strong attachment to them.

“It feels really good to finally decide where to go, but I knew Iowa was the place to go right away,” he said.

Bruce’s season is still ongoing. Lena-Winslow is seeking it’s second consecutive Class 1A state title.
